You can find the entrance to Bournside School off Warden Hill Road. We meet in the Sixth Form Centre at the front of the school. There are two entrances: the main reception entrance, and just along to the right of that is the door that we use to the Sixth Form Centre. There is lots of parking at the front of the school, including spaces reserved for the disabled, and there will be people there to welcome you.
Our Sunday gathering starts at 10am but we serve coffee before and after. People start to arrive from around 9.45am with many getting there just before start time. Most folk stick around for a while afterwards to chat and catch-up.
On the fourth week of each month we have a café style gathering where we sit around tables. People bring snacks, biscuits and cakes to eat during the service.
Those leading tend to dress casually so that everyone else can feel relaxed enough to wear whatever they think is most appropriate. Some who come along are jacket and tie, some are shorts and t-shirt.
Song words and any set spoken words (mostly only used during communion) are projected on a big screen.
We tend to start with a couple of child friendly songs then a child-focussed short talk. After the children go out to their groups we spend twenty minutes or so in sung worship led by one of our bands. Sometimes there is time for people to say a little something about what God is doing with them at the moment, sometimes we wait together and listen for what God might be saying to us.
There is normally a talk for about twenty minutes before some prayer time and then the parents collect their kids before coffee is served in the lounge.
If you are bringing children they are most welcome to go into the kids’ church groups during the main part of the worship or to stay with you throughout. Kids make noise, particularly young ones and that’s fine – we have a lot of kids in the church!
